My favourite restaurants in Hong Kong – February 2020

In Hong Kong, food is always a priority: the city is known for its incredibly diverse culinary scene, from food street to 3* Michelin restaurants. Here is the (short) list of my 2020 favorite places to dine in Hong Kong, for a romantic dinner or a gathering with friends.

BEDU

40 Gough Street, Central

Bedu is a cosy Middle Eastern restaurant & bar located in Central that showcases the region’s diverse street food culture through a contemporary approach in the kitchen. In this Middle East cuisine, you will enjoy exotic products, spices, and amazing fish or meat. I recommend the menu “Ask The Chef”: a selection of favorites for only $370/person.

CORNERSTONE

49 Hollywood Road, Central

Cornerstone is the next step forward for Michelin-starred chef Shane Osborn (of Arcane). The food is simple but fantastic with high-quality ingredients. The menu has six starters, six mains, and three desserts. Easy to choose but you won’t be disappointed! They don’t take reservations. First come first serve.

FRANTZEN KITCHEN

11 Upper Station St, Sheung Wan

I love this tiny and cozy restaurant, hidden in Tai Ping Shan. My favorite spot is at the bar, you can enjoy your dinner and watching the chef preparing your food. The menu features an ever-evolving array of Scandinavian dishes with Asian influences. My favorites: the poached oyster “63.4°C”, frozen gooseberries, seaweed powder with walnut & Hernö Gin (snack), then the Velouté with white onion, licorice & smoked Marcona almonds (starter), and to continue, the dry-aged rubia Gallega beef sirloin.

ZEST by Konishi

F & 29/F, No, 28, 18 On Lan St, Central

This is THE 2019 newbie restaurant in Central (opened in August) and it deserves its one* Michelin by using top-quality ingredients, the Japanese-French dishes are carefully prepared to a high standard. The iconic Chef Konishi worked at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Tokyo and legendary restaurant Taillevent in Paris.

Occupying the two-storey space that once housed ON Dining, ZEST has retained the airy terrace that opens up to great views of the city. The dining room is located on the 28th floor.
